Who would have thought LAST week that I would be writing to tell you that Jamos and I went to Germany THIS past weekend?! Not me! We booked our tickets LESS than 24 hours before our flight took off. The price was right, and we wanted to do SOMETHING for the weekend since Jamos had time off- which NEVER happens!! I have to admit, spur of the moment is NOT my speciality- and I had a hard time grasping what we were about to do with a brave soul. I was scared. Scared of flying, scared of having done NO planning before hand. But, like Jamos said, "IT WILL ALL WORK OUT" and it did. The Lord watched over us and kept us safe, gave us great seats on all flights- even though we had no seat assignments and the flights were full, he allowed us to know where we were going even though we had no idea....we just would "end up" at the right spot! When we got to Germany, we bought our train ticket to get into the city. We arrived at 8am that morning, so, we were able to jump right into the day- which REALLY helps with Jet Lag- so, book flights that arrive early in the morning- at your destination. We took the train about 45 minutes south into the heart of Munich, where we found our way to the train station, where we stopped at an information center- and a place called Euro-Aid. This is a great place to book tours, and tickets for things- including S-Bahn and U-Bahn tickets- which is their subway system. Anyways, we stopped at these places, and got our hotel booked- it was very close to the train station - and was perfect. We got a great price- a free upgrade to a larger room- free breakfast- and we could check in at 10am- which meant we could drop off our luggage and start our day! Since we had a train ticket from the airport- we could use it to travel ANYWHERE in any zone- so, we took advantage and hopped the train to Dachau. Dachau is home to the FIRST German Concentration Camp back in the 30’s and 40’s. We were able to take a bus to the camp- and walk around. Wow. What a place. You read about these things in history books, and hear the stories, but for Jamos and I, seeing it first hand, brought that all to reality- a sad reality. We walked thru the streets were they made the men and women line up for role call each morning, where they were kept in tiny blocks- to small to stand OR sit for months at a time. We saw the gas chamber, were they thought they were getting a shower, and were killed. We saw the crematorium- it was incredibly sad and moving and gave me a new respect for the history we so often hear about. The mood was very somber.
Back on the bus we went, to the train station and then, back to the hotel to change clothes and get ready for another tour! On this tour, we made lots of friends from America and Canada, and, stayed out REALLY late, but had to get up really EARLY for our trip to see Castles! I will end on Day 1- so, I can keep you wanting more, since we were there for 6 days and 5 nights J
